Canadian parents who are fostering children with the intention of adoption will now be eligible for employment insurance parental leave, thanks to new changes made by the federal government.

From the Toronto Star:

“ ‘Our government is helping Canadian families by supporting parents who have committed to adopting a child,’ said Human Resources Minister Diane Finley.

“ ‘By increasing flexibility to EI parental benefits that reflect evolving adoption programs we are putting the best interest of the child first, ensuring they are placed in a stable family environment as early as possible,’ she said in a statement.”

This is very good news for children and for the families who have chosen to commit to raising them!  We say “Amen!”
